Post-mastectomy complications
According to 20+ years of medical studies, the supermajority of mastectomy patients experience post-mastectomy complications. However, doctors are not disclosing this or treating us. Instead, they are deceiving, dismissing, and gaslighting us.

Postpartum depression (PPD), another women's medical condition, was also long dismissed. Due to increased awareness, including celebrities sharing their own stories and the Andrea Yates family tragedy, doctors began taking it seriously. Today, patients are informed of PPD, screened for symptoms, and treated.

We need similar care for mastectomies. The first step is raising awareness. Having successfully pitched an article on post-mastectomy pain syndrome or PMPS, I want to pitch articles on other complications. These include infection, necrosis, lymphedema, breast implant illness, reconstructive burnout, and disfigurement. (There may be overlap among these, e.g., lymphedema and disfigurement. Further, some may be associated with reconstruction, which about half or more of all mastectomy patients undergo.) If you have had any of these or other complications and would like to appear in an article about them, please contact me.
